Guests

Adults

Kids (3 to 12)

Children under 3 are listed but get no portions.

How many of them turn up

The party

Part-hours count in proportion: 2.5 hours is 2 full hours plus half an hour. Under 1 hour, first-hour amounts (drinks, and appetizers for drinks-and-appetizers parties) are scaled down.

What you're serving

Dietary groups (optional)

Reserve a main for a group, for example 6 vegetarian guests. That main is sized for them only, and they are taken out of the headcount for the other mains.

Dishes

Tags (V, VG, GF, DF, nut-free) are your own labels. Always check ingredients for allergies.

Drinks and ice

Drinks and ice start from common rules of thumb, not guarantees. Change any of them to suit your guests and the weather (hot days and lots of cold drinks need more ice).

Portion rules (change any of them)

These are common rules of thumb, not guarantees. Change any of them to suit your guests, and check them against what your crowd usually eats.

Plates, cups and napkins

Starting guesses per person; change them. The buffer is added.
