Questions
Does it know my utility's rates?
No. There are no built-in prices or tariffs. You type the rates from your own bill: dollars or cents per kWh, dollars per therm, ccf or cubic metre of gas, and dollars per gallon of propane or heating oil. That keeps it right for any state or country that uses those units.
What is the "percent of that time it runs" box?
A heater on a thermostat switches itself on and off, so it runs for less time than it is switched on. Enter your best estimate of the share of time it is actually heating. It starts at 100, which means it runs the whole time, and every cost uses it.
How does it price gas, propane and heating oil appliances?
You enter the input rating from the appliance's nameplate in BTU per hour. The tool turns that into therms or gallons using energy-content figures that you can edit. They start at typical values based on US EIA figures and are marked "check", so use your supplier's figure if you have one.
Will the total match my bill?
Not exactly. It is an estimate from the prices, ratings and hours you enter, and it only counts the appliances you list. Your real bill depends on the weather, your home and your utility's rates and charges. It is not energy, financial or safety advice. Follow the manufacturer's safety instructions for any heater.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your own device, in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no account. Use Export to save a backup file and Import to move it to another phone or computer.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Each tool is a single file that opens in the browser on any iPhone, Android phone, tablet or computer. There's no app to install.
Where do my numbers go?
Nowhere. Everything you type stays on your own device. The tools work offline and never send your data anywhere.
Is there a subscription?
No. You pay once and keep the file. Fixes to the version you bought are free.
